For inquiry, our topic was structures and for the past couple of days we were learning about bridges. So first we made a comparison between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Wynyard Crossing Bridge. We also made some DLOs (Digital Learning Object) about bridges and also posted them on our blogs. However today we did something that is related to bridges but not related to creating DLOs. What we did was VR also known as Virtual Reality. This program was run by Yvonne and her research team, whom are from Augmented Human Lab Auckland University. They did this to see, how their research, affect the way how we learn. We were really lucky to have them here, because not many schools in New Zealand have opportunity to learn a different way.
What we did
Yvonne and her research team, set all of their equipment in Workspace 1. (Place where the research started)
The first group to visit them were Mrs Anderson's inquiry group, and we visited them in the middle block.(after morning tea) Our first test was sight. So for this test we were asked to close one eye with our hand and read letters that were in front of us. I found this really interesting because, one my left eye the 'O' looked like a 'G' and on my right eye the 'O' looked like a 'O'. The following test was balance. For this test we were to walk in a straight line, and come back. The researchers timed us to see how long we took to walk from point A to point B. The following test was a Peripheral Vision. After we finished all of the tests, half of us got to use the VR Cardboard and the other half used Magic Window. For the Magic Window, a few apps were downloaded into a Ipad. Those apps allowed us to be in a Virtual Reality world with out VR Cardboard. The only difference is that the Magic Window is not that efficient as the VR Cardboad.
