Inquiry: Testing Our Speghetti Bridges

Today for inquiry, Ms Kirkpatrick's groups were testing their bridges constructed out of spaghetti. We have been working on our bridges for roughly 3 weeks. This task was to be completed in a group of four. What Ms Kirkpatrick did was combine 2 pairs together. My partner was Jack, and the remaining two were Jericho, and Te Ponamu. We all worked really well and listened to our ideas, while creating our plan and while constructing our bridge. At the end we managed to build a 25.5 cm long bridge. The type of bridge we built a was truss. We wanted to build a truss bridge because we knew that triangles are the strongest shape, and in order for our bridge to stay steady and strong we needed to build a bridge that includes lots of triangles, and a truss bridge was the best choice. This task was pretty hard to do. We all had lots of fun while constructing the spaghetti bridge, and today is testing day, which means we test our bridge's strength using bricks. Our bridge managed to hold 6 bricks, we though it could hold more, so we placed another brick on, unfortunately our bridge broke. We were surprised because our expectations were that our bridge could hold 3 bricks, we were also surprised that our bridge was one of the strongest.  This was an amazing experience and I'd love to do it again.

  1. Well done building your design. Your bridge was stronger than I thought it would be too. What would you change about the design if we did this activity again?

  3. Hello Sanujan,
I really enjoyed reading your blogpost! The things you did with Ms. Kiripatrick were similar to Mr. Ogilvie's inquiry groups. I think adding a bit more spaghetti to the middle would help. Your blurb really had a lot of detail to it!
